Twist, turn, and turn once again to reveal four or more different patterns! Combining ideas from origami and engineering, the Kaleidocycle is an ingenious three-dimensional turning machine of hinged sets of triangles designed by the Contemporary Geometric Beadwork Project team.
You will use peyote stitch to bead four triangle designs and then explore how multiples of the four designs relate to each other as they take their place within the Kaleidocycle structure. Six sets of four triangles, or a total of twenty four triangles, are needed to complete the Kaleidocycle. Students are asked to make and bring 24 completed beaded triangles to participant in the workshop. An illustrated tutorial for the triangle designs will be provided to registered students 6-8 weeks before the workshop. Class time will focus on triangle arrangement, assembly, and hinge construction. A packet of size 11 and size 15 black seed beads for creating hinges and joining the 24 triangles together into a Kaleidocycle will be provided with a written and illustrated project tutorial during the workshop.
