Fun with Leather: Earrings & More EarringsFebruary 5, 3:00pm - 6:00pm (ALREADY PAST)Mixed Media Class By Jen CushmanClass Fee: $75.00 Kit fee of $35 paid to instructor in class
Skill Level: All
The leather earring trend is super hot right now and seriously so much fun to make. In this fast paced workshop we’ll make multiple pairs of earrings of various designs. We will start with simple leaf shapes and geometrics to get your feet wet. As your confidence (and joy!) builds, we’ll level up the design to incorporate cold connections , beads, wirework and dangles and you’ll also learn how to make sophisticated leather tassels. You’ll also learn to make your own findings - French ear wires and headpins - from wire, which will help save you money in materials costs.
If you have an Etsy shop or sell your jewelry at local craft fairs or boutique shops this is a great class for you, as the materials are inexpensive and the time to produce is quick - two important components for creating profit for your handmade work. For those of you who are simply jewelry enthusiasts, these earring designs are so much fun to give as unique girlfriend gifts. And here’s an added bonus, they are light as a feather to wear so those you who adore statement earrings you can still go big but stay comfortable!

Supplies to bring:
Round Nose pliers
Chain nose or flat nose pliers
Bailmaking pliers – the stepped ones are perfect for this workshop or Wubbers makes great round mandrel pliers. To make your own French ear hooks in class, you will need the medium round mandrel size. You can also bring a Sharpie marker to make the ear wires, but it does get tedious when making multiples.
Small travel anvil or steel bench block to work harden wire
Ball peen hammer –Can be a chasing hammer or a hardware store variety. Whatever feels comfortable to you. We do need a hammer and anvil/steel bench block for work hardening our metal wire.
Optional: any beads you might like to add to your earrings. Wood is a great natural look but crystals add lovely color and bling. Colorful seed beads are fun for metal accent components as see in samples. Instructor will have plenty of materials as part of your kit. This is only necessary should you wish to work in a particular color palette or with specific stone beads.
Kit fee: $35 and includes lots of leather scraps in multiple fun colors, ribbon, chain, wood beads, jewelry glue, rivets and eyelets, high quality wire from Parawire and use of instructor’s torches and butane gas.
