No experience needed! Learn to create unusual gold and silver jewelry in this introduction to the
ancient Korean art of keum-boo, where 24 kt gold foil is fused to fine silver and patinated to
create a unique effect.
Keum-boo is a simple but precise process and the instructor for this class will walk you carefully and
thoroughly through the process step-by-step, as we all create earrings that are your interpretation
of those shown in the illustration. Each step will be carefully demonstrated and explained, but you will be able to bring your own design ideas to the project.
Skills covered in this class include depletion gilding, cutting and placing foil, fusing, patinating the metal, and finally polishing and finishing.
Silver blanks will be available in a selection of shapes, and availability may vary. Cost of the kit with all the components needed to make earrings will be $95 including the silver ear wires, in addition to the class fee of $100.
When you leave class, you will not only have successfully created your first piece of wearable art—but you will also take with you a comprehensive handout, with fully illustrated step-by-step instructions to help you get started in your home studio, plus a detailed list of resources you need and where to buy them.
If the time and date of the class you want to take is unavailable, please email the teacher at
studiominerock@gmail.com. We will either make room or put you on a waitlist in case another student can’t make it.
Things to bring with you to class: any magnification you might need for close work, plus a battery
operated task light if you want it—the classrooms at the show can be a little dimly lit!
Please, no requests for refunds less than five days before the show, due to the planning needed for
travel and supplies.
