The project uses a linear scrolled focal and repeated fleur de lys shapes that make reference to France. The pink & blue color way which I call 'Macaroon', reminded me of the movie Marie Antoinette with all her dreamy candy-colored dresses. In fact, Italian costumier Milena Canonero's palette was inspired by a box of colorful macarons given to her by Director Sofia Coppola. Inspiration comes in all guises, I hope you will be inspired to create with beads.

You will hammer texture your silver disc, and then learn how to “tin” your copper star to attach it to
your base silver disc. I will also show you several techniques for controlling solder flow. Once you have soldered on your copper star, we will fabricate a fine silver granule and add that to the center of the pendant for a final mixed metals flourish.
Once the pendant is complete, we will use a dapping block to shape it attractively and then you will
learn to polish your completed jewelry using affordable and approachable tools and techniques.
You will construct the necklace from sheet metal stampings using traditional metalsmithing techniques such as soldering, texturing, filing, and polishing.
This class is appropriate for total beginners but also has much to offer a more advanced jewelry student.
All tools are provided but will be affordable and approachable options for the home jeweler.
You will receive comprehensive illustrated handouts for the class and a complete resource list. My teaching style and goal is for all my students to see a successful conclusion in a safe and fun learning environment. If you have any questions before enrolling, please email me at studiominerock@gmail.com .

operated task light if you want it—the classrooms at the show can be a little dimly lit!

8:30am - 2:30pm
The central focal is a similar shape to a handheld mirror. The surreal cab of a woman with a castle on her head was selected in anticipation of European travel. Since castle pastures frequently have sheep, I took that thought and literally turned it on its head by adding a sheep to the bezel. Bead embroidery pairs well with freeform beading, it gives a more organic look that might not be achieved with other forms of beading. If you have some bead embroidery experience but haven't yet combined it with freeform, try this beginner-friendly project. Focal elements will be bezeled at home in advance (preferably) and then assembled in class via freeform peyote and a spiral peyote neckband.
Duration: 5 hours with break.
Techniques: Peyote bezels, flat peyote, and spiral peyote, brick stitch edging for bead embroidered components.
Kits are not required but will be available. Green Castle Kits include the entire central surreal focal element as shown, two cabochons for star-shaped bead woven auxiliary focals, a seed bead mix pack and lobster claw closure. Bead mix packs contain 15-11-10-8/0 seed beads, chips and miscellaneous bits for interest. Kits will be sent prior to class, US shipping $7. For you to make the best use of class time, it is highly recommended focals be bezeled prior to class with bead embroidery, bead weaving or a combination of both. For Green Castle, students should also select and prepare at least two auxiliary focals of size 18-22mm in the color theme and four of a recurring element to be used between focals to create a rhythm. I used 12x12mm leaves that came to a point, you may find/think of something different. For those preferring to work from their stash and own vision, I will support your creativity. Run your focal selection/color palette by me for a sanity check before starting, if you wish.

Run your focal selection/color palette by me for a sanity check before starting, if you wish.

carefully and calmly coached through a simple series of steps that combine to create a
sophisticated piece of jewelry. We will take a short break at a mutually agreed upon time in the middle of the day.
Once you have chosen your gemstone from a selection made available in class, you will create this entire pendant, including the bezel, the background texture, and the bail. You may supply your own gemstone, but it must be a flat back cabochon stone, and it should not be too big or too fragile. I do reserve the right to suggest your use of a class gemstone for learning!
Using a custom fabricated bezel, you will set a cabochon gem on your pendant, and finally you will learn to make your own bail and to suspend your pendant kinetically from its chain using a heat riveting technique.
You will construct the pendant from sheet and wire using traditional metalsmithing techniques such as soldering, texturing, filing, granulation, stone setting, and polishing.
All tools are provided but will be affordable and approachable options for the home jeweler.
You will receive comprehensive illustrated handouts for the class, along with complete
resource lists. My teaching style and goal is for all my students to see a successful conclusion in a safe and fun learning environment. If you have any questions before enrolling, please email me at
studiominerock@gmail.com .
Things to bring with you to class: any magnification you might need for close work, plus a battery-
operated task light if you want it—the classrooms at the show can be a little dimly lit!
Metalsmithing skills taught in this class:
Make a custom bezel for any stone
Solder bezel to base
Hammer texturing
Create a riveted foldover bail
Controlling solder flow
Polishing

The project uses a linear scrolled focal and repeated fleur de lys shapes that make reference to France. The pink & blue color way which I call 'Macaroon', reminded me of the movie Marie Antoinette with all her dreamy candy-colored dresses. In fact, Italian costumier Milena Canonero's palette was inspired by a box of colorful macarons given to her by Director Sofia Coppola. Inspiration comes in all guises, I hope you will be inspired to create with beads.

In this class, you will learn how to create a tube set gemstone pendant in silver using just a butane
torch--simple equipment you can safely use at home.
Once you have chosen your gemstone from a selection made available in class, you will create this entire pendant. Using a purchased tube setting, you will also add a faceted gem to your pendant, and finally you will learn to polish your completed jewelry using affordable and approachable tools and techniques.
You may supply your own gemstone, but it must be a calibrated 5 mm faceted round stone, and it
should not be too fragile. I do reserve the right to suggest your use of a class gemstone for learning!
You will construct the pendant from sheet and wire using traditional metalsmithing techniques such as soldering, texturing, filing, stone setting, and polishing.
All tools are provided but will be affordable and approachable options for the home jeweler.
You will receive comprehensive illustrated handouts for the class and a list of tools for purchase if you choose.
Soldering
Filing
Texturing
Calibrated faceted gemstone setting
